Som was born in a small village outside of Chiang Mai, Thailand. The kitchen was the center-piece of the home, and her experience learning to prepare Thai food started at a young age, working alongside her grandmother. Over the years, she developed a confident skill in creating many delicious and traditional Thai dishes.
Now a resident of West Tisbury, she is a private chef, specializing in healthy Thai cuisine. She uses organic and locally sourced produce whenever possible. No refined sugar, salt, or MSG, good quality olive or sesame oil, and herbs/spices to create her curries, soups, spring rolls, rice and noodle dishes.
In this class, Som will recreate some of her favorite dishes as well as discuss some of the basics of Thai cuisine. Lunch is included.
Fresh Spring Rolls with sauce
Panang Curry with Chicken
Vegetable Pad Thai

Plastic Free, Zero Waste and Kitchen Sustainability with Nina Hitchen
West Tisbury Kitchen
It might seem nearly impossible to rid a kitchen of plastic wrap and bags, meat wrapped in plastic, junk food packaging, or even banishing cleaning products in plastic bottles. Oak Bluffs resident and interior designer Nina Hitchen designer has done just this, achieving a near plastic-free and zero-waste kitchen. In this special event workshop and brunch, Nina will share her story, her successes and help participants learn more sustainable kitchen practices. Nina’s journey to “life without plastic” began when she gave birth to twins six years ago and decided to rid her kitchen of plastic – concerned about its health effects. Along the way, she has traded disposables for reusables and has learned how to grocery shop plastic-free on Martha’s Vineyard and saying no to plastic-packaged produce – among many other transformations. After the talk and demo, participants with enjoy brunch together, prepared by Catherine Walthers.
